Dallas trailed by as many as nine points early but rallied and the game remained tight through the fourth period. A Steve Nash shot in the lane with 1:31 to play tied the score at 112-112 but a pair of Jerry Stackhouse free throws put the Mavericks up.

After Nash missed a shot on the other end, Terry connected on a jump shot for a four-point lead. An offensive foul on the Suns gave Dallas another free throw and two free shots more from Anthony Johnson put the game away.

Phoenix got 30 points from Leandro Barbosa and 20 points and nine assists from Nash, who also was charged with 10 turnovers.
