INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Indiana Pacers guard Stephen Jackson was booked on a charge of felony criminal recklessness Thursday and released almost immediately.
The charges stem from a brawl last week outside of an Indianapolis nightclub, the Indianapolis Star reported. Jackson, who allegedly fired several shots, also faces two misdemeanor counts.
Jackson and other Pacers players were leaving a strip club with friends on Friday when they got into what started as a verbal exchange. One of their adversaries is charged with hitting Jackson with his car.
Larry Bird, an executive with the Pacers, said that Jackson thought he was a victim in the fight and was shocked to face criminal charges.
"This is a big blow for Stephen. He didn't expect this,'' Bird said. "He's taking it very hard."
Jackson is on probation for fighting with fans during a game in Detroit, so the new charges could cause even more legal difficulties.
