COL FB: West Va. 42, Mississippi St. 14

STARKVILLE, Miss., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- After a struggle, No. 4 West Virginia scored 21 points in the fourth quarter and beat Mississippi State, 42-14.

The Mountaineers led by only 14-7 at the half, but seized full control of the contest with seven points in the third quarter for a 21-7 advantage heading into the final quarter.

Heisman Trophy hopeful Steve Slaton rushed for one touchdown on 26 carries for 186 yards; quarterback Pat White was 6-for-10 passing for 90 yards and added 79 yards and two touchdowns on 10 rushing attempts; while Darius Reynaud, Slaton, and Brandon Myles combined to make six catches for 90 yards for the Mountaineers (5-0).

Omarr Conner was 10-of-19 for 133 yards and one touchdown; back-up quarterback Mike Henig was 7-of-15 for 117 yards and two interceptions; Arnil Stallworth gained 43 yards on eight carries; and Tony Burks caught a touchdown pass for the Bulldogs (1-5).
