TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Russian Elena Vesnina was upset Wednesday in the second round of the $145,000 Tashkent Open in Uzbekistan.
Vesnina was stopped 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 by Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko, who moves into the tournament quarterfinals against local favorite Iroda Tulyaganova. The Uzbek native was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn.

Italian Maria Elena Camerin, the tournament's top seed, cruised past Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva, 6-1, 6-3. In another second-round match Wednesday, eighth-seeded Russian Anastassia Rodionova avoided an upset by outlasting Belarusian Ekaterina Dzehalevich, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
