NFL: Washington 31, Houston 15

HOUSTON, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Clinton Portis ran for two touchdowns Sunday afternoon as the previously winless Washington Redskins beat the Houston Texans, 31-15.

Portis gained 86 yards on 16 carries. Lydell Betts gained 124 yards on 16 carries and quarterback Mark Brunell set an NFL record by completing his first 22 passes.

Brunell was 24-of-27 for 261 yards and one touchdown.

Portis also had the game's longest play, a 74-yard pass-and-run in the second quarter.

Santana Moss had six receptions for 50 yards and Antwaan Randle-El caught Brunell's 23-yard scoring pass, also in the second quarter, for the Redskins (1-2), who rushed for 236 yards.

David Carr was 19-of-29 for 208 yards, two touchdowns, one interception and one lost fumble. Andre Johnson had 11 receptions for 152 yards, Ron Dayne rushed for 58 yards on 14 carries, and both Owen Daniels and Mark Bruener caught touchdown passes for the Texans (0-3).
