MLB: N.Y. Yankees 7, Boston 5

NEW YORK, Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi's RBI double in the seventh inning led the New York Yankees past Boston, 7-5, in the nightcap of a day/night doubleheader Saturday.

The Red Sox won the opener, 5-2.

The victory in the nightcap reduced the Yankees' magic number to four, for clinching the AL East.

Derek Jeter had one hit in five at-bats to extend his career-best hitting streak to 25 games. Melky Cabrera had three hits and one RBI, and Bernie Williams had one hit and two RBI for the Yankees.

Yankees starter Randy Johnson went 5 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits. Scott Proctor (6-4) picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief, and Kyle Farnsworth pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save.

Coco Crisp and Wily Mo Pena each had two RBI for Red Sox.

Boston starter Julian Tavarez gave up four runs on five hits in five innings. Craig Breslow (0-2) took the loss.
