MORGANTOWN, W.Va., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Steve Slaton rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries Thursday night as fifth-ranked West Virginia ripped Maryland, 45-24.
Quarterback Pat White was 6-of-9 passing for one touchdown and 43 yards. Darius Reynaud made four catches for 28 yards and a touchdown, White gained 85 yards on 12 rushing attempts and scored once, and Reynaud added a 96-yard kickoff return for a score for the Mountaineers (3-0).
Slaton committed to Maryland two years ago, but Terps Coach Ralph Friedgen revoked the scholarship after Slayton declined to be a defensive back.
Sam Hollenbach threw for 211 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions; Lance Ball gained 50 yards on 12 rushing attempts and scored once, Joey Haynos caught eight passes for a touchdown and 51 yards, and Isaiah Williams caught a touchdown pass for the Terrapins (2-1).
West Virginia broke the game open with 28 points in the first quarter.
