MLB: San Francisco 8, Atlanta 6

ATLANTA, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Mark Sweeney and Eliezer Alonso each had two RBI Thursday night as San Francisco beat Atlanta, 8-6.

Todd Linden hit a solo home run; Sweeney had two runs and two hits; Steve Finley, Randy Winn and Ray Durham all drove in a run; and Barry Bonds had two runs and two hits for the Giants (66-68), who averted a three-game sweep and have split their last four games.

Winner Matt Morris (10-11) gave up six hits and five runs in 6 1/3 innings.

Armando Benitez recorded his 17th save.

Jeff Francoeur and Edgar Renteria hit RBI singles; Marcus Giles hit a sacrifice fly; Francoeur had two RBI; while Renteria and Andruw Jones each had one run, two hits and one RBI for the Braves (63-69), who had a four-game winning streak snapped.

In five innings, loser John Smoltz (12-7) yielded six hits and seven runs.
