MLB: Cincinnati 6, San Francisco 3

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- David Ross hit a two-out solo homer in the eighth inning as the Reds beat the San Francisco Giants, 6-3, Thursday night.

Edwin Encarnacion had three hits and two RBI for the Reds, who won for the fifth time in six games and moved into a virtual tie with the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.

The Cardinals lost to the New York Mets, 6-2, earlier Thursday. The Cards are 66-60, while the Reds are 67-61.

Ryan Franklin (5-6) earned the win in relief and David Weathers earned his 10th save of the season for the Reds.

Randy Winn and Pedro Feliz each homered for the Giants, who had a three-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the third time in 11 outings.

Vinnie Chulk (1-2) took the loss after serving up Ross's game-winning homer.
