MLB: Pittsburgh 3, San Francisco 0

PITTSBURGH, July 28 (UPI) -- Five pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout Friday night as the Pittsburgh Pirates blanked San Francisco, 3-0, for their third straight win.

Freddy Sanchez, Sean Casey and Jose Castillo all drove in a run; while Nate McLouth had a run and two hits for the Pirates, who improved to 38-66.

Starter Kip Wells (1-0) threw seven-plus shutout innings with three walks and three strikeouts. John Grabow, Salomon Torres, Damaso Marte and Mike Gonzalez finished up, with Gonzalez earning his 17th save.

Steve Finley had two of the seven hits for the Giants (51-52), who have dropped four games in a row.

Losing pitcher Jason Schmidt (7-7) surrendered three runs and six hits in six innings. He walked two batters and struck out four.
