MLB: Atlanta 5, Philadelphia 1

PHILADELPHIA, July 23 (UPI) -- Jeff Francoeur hit a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning Sunday night helping Atlanta beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 5-1.

Edgar Renteria hit a solo homer; and had two runs and two hits for the Braves (46-51), who made the most of their five hits to broke a two-game skid with the eighth win in their last 10 games.

In relief, the winner was Macay McBride (2-1).

Mike Lieberthal knocked in the only run with a ground-out in the second inning; Ryan Howard had three hits; while David Bell and Jimmy Rollins each had two hits; and Chase Utley hit a double to extend his hitting streak to 23 games for the Phillies (44-51), who had won their previous two games.

In his return from a personal absence, the losing pitcher was Brett Myers (6-4), who retired 12 straight batters at one point.
