MLB: Arizona 6, Colorado 2

PHOENIX, July 22 (UPI) -- Three hits by Luis Gonzalez helped the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 6-2 at Chase Field Friday and pick up the ninth win in 11 games.

The hits by the left-fielder were matched by second baseman Orlando Hudson.

The win puts Arizona within a game of first-place San Diego in the Nationl League West.

Arizona starter Claudio Vargas (8-6) allowed two runs over six innings to post his second victory in six weeks. Vargas gave up six hits, walked two and struck out four.

Rockies starting pitcher Aaron Cook (6-8) allowed five runs and 11 hits in 4 2-3 innings for the Rockies, who have lost 10 of 11. He walked three and struck out one.

The Diamondbacks pounded Cook for four runs in the third inning. Chad Tracy scored on Gonzalez's double.

Johnny Estrada doubled Gonzalez home two outs later, and Estrada scored on a single by Hudson. Hudson scored on Stephen Drew's triple to give Arizona a 5-0 lead.

Garrett Atkins of the Rockies doubled and scored on Yorvit Torrealba's RBI grounder in the fourth, making it 5-1. Colorado closed it to 5-2 on Atkins' 420-foot solo homer in the sixth, his 12th home run of the season.
