BALTIMORE, June 23 (UPI) -- Baltimore's Rodrigo Lopez won a pitchers' duel with Washington's John Patterson Friday night, as the Orioles beat the Nationals, 2-1.
Melvin Mora hit a sacrifice fly, Nick Markakis had a run and two hits, and Corey Patterson hit an RBI single for the Orioles (34-41), who won for the third time in their last seven games.
Lopez (5-8), who captured his fourth straight decision after a slow start, scattered seven hits over seven innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. Hard-throwing right-hander Chris Ray got his 19th save.
Daryle Ward hit a sacrifice fly and Royce Clayton had a run and three hits for the Nationals (32-43), who have lost four straight.
Patterson (1-1), who had been on the disabled list since April 21, gave up just two runs and six hits in six innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
