Dementieva makes Ordina semifinals

'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 22 (UPI) -- Elena Dementieva and Dinara Safina won their quarterfinal matches at the Ordina Open in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

Dementieva, the top seed, beat No. 5 Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. The second-seeded Safina was a 6-3, 6-4, winner over Dutch native Brenda Schultz-McCarthy, who at 35 years old, is making her last stand at this tournament.

Another Dutch native, 17-year-old Michaella Krajicek, beat No. 8 seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia, who retired at 6-6 in the first set because of a muscle strain.

Also advancing was Eleni Daniilidou of Greece, who won her match against Paola Suarez of Argentina when Suarez retired with a left-calf injury.

In Friday's semifinals, Dementieva meets Krajicek and Safina faces Daniilidou.

The survivors are playing for a winner's check of $28,000.
