NHL's second-leading scorer hurt

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., April 22 (UPI) -- Rangers star winger Jaromir Jagr left late in the third period of New York's 6-1 loss to New Jersey with what was described as an upper body injury.

Jagr, who was the second-leading scorer in the NHL this season, attempted to check Devils' forward Scott Gomez off the puck at the blue line. The check only grazed Gomez and Jagr awkwardly regained his balance before skating over to the Rangers' bench.

He stayed hunched over until several team officials helped him to the locker room. Jagr was apparently favoring his left arm after the incident in the opener of the team's Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

Jagr, 32, had 54 goals and 69 assists for 123 points this season for the Rangers, behind only San Jose Sharks center Joe Thornton's 125 points.

Jagr also broke Jean Ratelle's Rangers mark for most points in a season. Ratelle had 109 points in the 1971-72 campaign.
