BOSTON, April 16 (UPI) -- Mark Loretta was 2-for-4 with a double and one run scored Sunday as Boston edged Seattle, 3-2.
Manny Ramirez went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Alex Gonzalez had a hit and an RBI for the Red Sox (8-4), who have won two of their last three games.
Winner Josh Beckett (3-0) allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings with a walk and five strikeouts. Jonathan Papelbon, who pitched a perfect ninth inning, matched Boston's rookie record for saves in a calendar month with Jeff Gray -- who had six in August 1990.
No Red Sox rookie had ever recorded as many as four saves in the month of April prior to Papelbon.
Jose Lopez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Mariners (6-7), who have lost two of their last three outings.
The loser was Seattle starter Jarrod Washburn (1-2).
