ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 11 (UPI) -- Brian Roberts had two hits and two RBI for the Baltimore Orioles as they posted an 8-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
David Newhan also had two hits and two RBI and Miguel Tejada a two-run double for the Orioles, who totaled 11 hits in the game. Kris Benson (1-1) earned his first win as an Oriole in his second start as he allowed two runs -- one earned -- on five hits in seven-plus innings.
Ty Wigginton was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored while Carl Crawford, Joey Gathright and Russell Branyan also drove in runs for the Devil Rays.
Jason Hammel (0-1) made his major league debut and struggled in 3 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits. He was called up from Triple-A Durham late on Monday.
