Redick among finalists for Wooden Award

LOS ANGELES, March 28 (UPI) -- Duke's J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams were among five finalists named Tuesday for the 30th annual John Wooden Award.

Other finalists are Villanova's Randy Foye, Gonzaga's Adam Morrison and Washington's Brandon Roy.

Foye was named Big East Player of the Year while leading the team in points (20.1 ppg). Morrison was the nation's top scorer (28.4 ppg), while Redick finished second in the nation in scoring (27.4 ppg). Roy's 19.9 points and 4.1 assists per game helped Washington to an appearance in the Sweet 16. Williams averaged 18.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.

The Wooden Award goes to the most outstanding collegiate basketball player in the United States. In addition, voters are supposed to base their selections on each candidate's character and academic performance.
