CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 28 (UPI) -- Nextel Cup driver Jeff Gordon was fined $10,000 Tuesday for shoving Matt Kenseth following Sunday's Food City 500 at the Bristol Motor Speedway.

In addition to fining Gordon, NASCAR placed him on probation until Aug. 30.

Kenseth made contact with Gordon on the last lap of the race and the four-time Nextel-Cup champion fell from third place to 21st. After the race, Kenseth walked over to Gordon on pit road, apparently to explain the incident. Instead, Gordon shoved Kenseth.

It marked the first time in Gordon's 14-year career he's faced discipline for conduct.

Kenseth is currently first in the season points standings. Gordon is seventh.
