NHL: Philadelphia 5, Washington 4

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Brian Savage scored two goals Friday night as Philadelphia held on to edge Washington, 5-4.

Simon Gagne, Donald Brashear and Sami Kapanen also scored goals; Frederick Meyer had two assists; and Robert Esche made 39 saves for the Flyers (33-15-9), who have won two in a row on the heels of a three-game losing streak.

Alexander Ovechkin and Dainius Zubrus each had a goal and an assist; Brian Sutherby and Brian Willsie both scored once; and Brent Johnson made 24 saves for the Capitals (19-31-5), who have lost three straight and seven of their last nine games.

In defeat, Washington easily out-shot Philadelphia, 43-29. On the power play, both teams went 3-for-10.

The Capitals are 0-15-1 in their last 16 trips to Philadelphia, dating back to Jan. 31, 1998.
