Acasuso makes Movistar quarterfinals

VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Jose Acasuso beat Gustavo Marcaccio, 6-1, 6-1, Thursday to move into the quarterfinals at the Movistar Open in Vina del Mar, Chile.

Acasuso, a big hitter, needed less than an hour to win the clay-court match and will play doubles specialist Leos Friedl in one quarterfinal on Friday. Friedl, a qualifier, was a straight sets 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 winner over wild card Jorge Aguilar. Elsewhere, Boris Pashanski ousted Alessio Di Mauro 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-0; second-seeded Fernando Gonzalez advanced with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) decision over 17-year-old Juan Martin del Potro; and Boris Pashanski rallied to beat Alessio Di Mauro 6-7 (2-7), 7-6 (7-4), 6-0.
