Loren Roberts wins Turtle Bay event

KAHUKU, Hawaii, Jan. 29 (UPI) -- Loren Roberts made a nine-foot eagle putt on the final hole Sunday to hold off Scott Simpson and win the Turtle Bay Championship at Kahuku, Hawaii.

Roberts closed with an even-par 72 to finish at 12-under-par 204, beating the 1987 U.S. Open Champion by two strokes. Roberts, who won the MasterCard Championship last week, became the third player to open the season with back-to-back wins on the Champions Tour.

Don January did it in 1981, and Larry Nelson did it in 2001.

In Sunday's final round, Simpson shot a 2-under 70 to finish at 10-under 204 with Isao Aoki (70). Reigning Senior British Open champion Tom Watson shot a 4-under 68 Sunday and finished at 8-under 208 with Don Pooley (71).

Allen Doyle (69) was tied for 10th place with Wayne Levi (69), Keith Fergus (69) and Jay Haas (72).
