Mauresmo, Hingis advance in Aussie Open

MELBOURNE, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France and three-time champion Martina Hingis of Switzerland both advanced in Saturday's Australian Open.

The 26-year-old Mauresmo needed to play only one set (6-2) before Dutch Michaella Krajicek retired due to heat stress, while Hingis blasted Czech Iveta Benesova 6-4, 6-1 in just one hour, six minutes.
