MELBOURNE, Jan. 17 (UPI) -- Croat Ivan Ljubicic and Argentine Gaston Gaudio posted straight-set wins over a pair of Germans in second-round action at the 2006 Australian Open.
Ljubicic beat Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 in two hours, 20 minutes, while Gaudio defeated of Lars Burgsmuller 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 in just under two hours.
Davis Cup hero Ljubicic had 35 winners and only 22 unforced errors while Gaudio, who won the 2004 French Open, had 28 winners and 17 errors.
The big upset on Day 3 came when American Robbie Ginepri blew a two-set lead before falling in five sets against Denis Gremelmayr. The little-known German roared back for a 2-6, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 win over Ginepri, who reached last year's U.S. Open semifinals.
Ginepri committed 62 errors in the match that lasted slightly over three hours.
