The story of the day was 16-year-old Michelle Wie, who carded a 9-over-par 79. Wie and John Cook are one stroke from last place after 18 holes.

"It was just a combination of bad shots that turned out to be really bad," Wie told reporters after the round. "It was so darned hard out there with the wind and everything."

Wie is competing this week under a sponsor's exemption.
