NEW YORK, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson ended the regular season last Sunday as the AFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Johnson rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries against Cincinnati. In his ninth consecutive 100-yard performance, Johnson, who earned the honor three times in the last seven weeks, finished the season with 1,750 yards, breaking the team's single season rushing total of 1,615, set by Priest Holmes in 2002.
He was joined by strong safety John Lynch (defense) of Denver, who had two sacks both of which led to fumbles and later Broncos points, in a 23-7 win at San Diego, and New England quarterback Doug Flutie (special teams), who used a drop-kick for an extra point in the Patroits' 28-26 loss to Miami.
A drop-kick had not been converted in an NFL game since the NFL championship game between Chicago and the New York Giants on Dec. 21, 1941.
