NHL: Atlanta 4, Montreal 0

ATLANTA, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Michael Garnett had 36 saves Monday while posting his second straight shutout, leading the Atlanta Thrashers to a 4-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

Jaroslav Modry had a goal and two assists and Ilya Kovalchuk added a goal and an assist in his first contest back after serving a one-game suspension for the Thrashers, who have won five of their last six games.

Garnett made 29 saves to blank the New Jersey Devils on Dec. 23. He has not allowed a goal since the 16-minute mark of the second period in a loss to Washington on Dec. 22 -- a span of 148:57. His shutout streak is a new Thrashers record, surpassing the mark previously held by Milan Hnilicka of 129:53 set in 2000.
