WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Rookie Alexander Ovechkin was the only player to score in the shootout Friday night as Washington edged Atlanta, 3-2.
Bryan Muir and Jakub Klepis also scored one goal each and goaltender Olaf Kolzig made 35 saves for the Capitals (5-8-0), who broke a two-game slide with their best defensive effort of the young season.

Peter Bondra and Bobby Holik scored goals and goalie Mike Dunham made 30 saves for the Thrashers (4-8-1), who have lost four of their last five games.
Both teams were scoreless on the power play. The Thrashers out-shot Washington, 38-34.
Atlanta beat Washington, 7-3 and 8-1, in a home-and-home series in October.
