Baseball's Players Choice honorees named

NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Atlanta Braves centerfielder Andruw Jones Thursday was named Player of the Year in voting by MLB players.

The Players Choice Award is one of a number of post-season honors for Jones, who led the majors in 2005 with his career-high 51 home runs. He also had 128 RBI.

Earlier this week, Jones received his eighth consecutive Gold Glove Award and also has earned a Silver Slugger Award.

Boston Red Sox DH/first baseman David Ortiz was named the Outstanding Player in the American League after he led the majors in RBI with 148. Ortiz also hit 47 homers.

Other honors went to Kansas City first baseman Mike Sweeney, right-hander Bartolo Colon of the LA Angels of Anaheim, Chris Carpenter of St. Louis, Ken Griffey, Jr. of Cincinnati (NL Comeback Player of the Year), the New York Yankees' Jason Giambi (AL comeback player), Houston's Willy Taveras (NL rookie), and Oakland reliever Houston Street (AL rookie).
