Roddick advances at Lyon

LYON, France, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Andy Roddick was among Thursday's second-round winners at the Lyon Tennis Grand Prix in France.

Roddick, who was the runner-up at Wimbledon, beat Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, and will face Mario Ancic in Friday's quarterfinals. Roddick, the top seed, and Ancic, who is No. 7, are the only seeded players left in the event.

Other winners Thursday were Gael Monfils, who knocked off third-seeded Gaston Gaudio 6-4, 6-3; Sebastien Grosjean, who beat No. 5 Tommy Robredo, 7-5, 6-3; Vincent Spadea, Fabrice Santoro, and Marc Gicquel.

In Friday's other quarterfinal matches, Spadea will play Santoro, Gicquel meets Monfils and Grosjean battles Olivier Rochus.

The 2005 Lyon champ will claim $115,000. Santoro won the crown in 1997 while Mathieu won it in 2002.
