NHL: Carolina 4, Washington 0

WASHINGTON, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Ray Whitney had a goal and an assist Saturday night as the Carolina Hurricanes blanked Washington, 4-0.

Cory Stillman and Rod Brind'Amour each had a tally, and goalie Martin Gerber stopped all 17 shots he faced for the Hurricanes (4-2-1), who have won three of their last four games. Carolina was 3-for-12 on the power play.

The Capitals (3-6) went 0-for-5 on the power play and were out-shot, 41-18. Goalie Olaf Kolzig had 37 saves.

Rookie Alexander Ovechkin had his eight-game point streak snapped.
