Federer has foot injury

BASEL, Switzerland, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Roger Federer is expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks because of a foot injury he sustained while practicing.

The top-ranked men's tennis player in the world said on his Web site Thursday he injured a ligament in his foot while trying to hit a forehand drive shot. He will not play in the Madrid Masters next week or the Swiss Indoors the following week, but should be ready for the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup to be played next month in Shanghai.

"I'm extremely disappointed, above all that I can't play at home for the second straight year in Basel," Federer said. "But I'm hoping to go to Shanghai again perfectly fit."

Federer has won 11 titles this year, including Wimbledon and the U.S. Open, and has a match record of 77-3.
