NHL: Washington 3, NY Rangers 2

WASHINGTON, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Alexander Ovechkin scored the decisive goal at 9:03 of the third period Monday as Washington held on for a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers.

Ovechkin, No. 1 overall pick in the 2004 draft, scored his third goal of the year. The 20-year-old Russian has scored in all four games for the Capitals and already has five points in his rookie season.

Petr Sykora and Steve Eminger each added their first NHL goals for the Capitals and Olaf Kolzig made 30 saves.

Jaromir Jagr and Marcel Hossa scored for the Rangers, who haven't won since an opening-night victory in Philadelphia. Kevin Weekes stopped 25-of-28 shots for New York.
