NHL: Detroit 5, St. Louis 1

DETROIT, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Pavel Datsyuk scored a goal and had an assist Wednesday night as the Detroit Red Wings topped St. Louis, 5-1.

The Red Wings had four other players also tally a goal and back-up goal tender Manny Legace stopped 13-of-14 shots in place of the injured Chris Osgood, who sat out with a groin injury.

Eric Brewer scored the team's only goal for the Blues, who dropped to 37-19-13 in season openers. St. Louis goalie Patrick Lalime yielded four goals on 24 shots before being pulled in the second period.

Detroit was 1-for-7 on the power play while the Blues were 0-for-6. The Red Wings now are 10-1-1 against St. Louis in their last 11 meetings.
