The 7-foot-1-inch Chandler was a restricted free agent after playing a career-high 80 games last season with the Bulls. He averaged 8.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

"We're very happy," said John Paxson, Chicago executive vice president of basketball operations, in early September. "Tyson's play last season was an important factor to our success, and we hope to take the next step forward with Tyson being a major contributor to our team."

Chandler originally was chosen by the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the 2001 NBA draft. He has averaged 7.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per contest in 261 career games.

His draft rights were dealt to the Bulls for center Elton Brand on June 27, 2001.
