Calcavecchia ends 4-year drought in Canada

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Mark Calcavecchia shot 71 Sunday for his second straight over-par round but still did well enough to win the Canadian Open.

Calcavecchia wound up at 5-under 275 -- the highest winning score on the PGA Tour this season other than the U.S. Open and PGA Championship. That gave him a one-shot victory.

The win was Calcavecchia's 12th on the PGA Tour and his first since the 2001 Phoenix Open. The four-year drought was the longest in his career.

Ben Crane, who won this year's U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee, had a 4-under 66 Sunday to get within one of Calcavecchia. Ryan Moore, who captured last year's NCAA Individual Championship and the U.S. Amateur title, birdied the 72nd hole to shoot an even-par 70 and join Crane in second at 276.

Jesper Parnevik missed a birdie try on the 18th Sunday, but shot a 72 for fourth place at 277.
