Cal loses Longshore to a broken leg

BERKELEY, Calif., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Quarterback Nate Longshore of California suffered a broken leg in Saturday's 41-3 win over Sacramento State and will miss the balance of the 2005 season.

Before suffering the injury late in the first half, Longshore, a redshirt freshman who was projected to be the team's starter throughout the season, went 8-of-11 passing for 131 yards and one interception.

He was taken to the locker room on a cart and the injury was first thought to be just an ankle sprain. Coach Jeff Tedford later revealed that Longshore suffered a broken fibula.

His loss leaves the Golden Bears with no experience at the quarterback position because of the early departure of 2004 standout Aaron Rodgers, who left for the NFL after his junior season and was taken by Green bay with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2005 draft.
