MLB: St. Louis 6, Florida 1

MIAMI, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Chris Carpenter, working 7 2/3 innings, picked up his major league-leading 19th victory Monday as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Florida Marlins, 6-1.

David Eckstein went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs, while Larry Walker added a homer for the Cardinals, who have won three in a row and six of their last eight games.

Carpenter (19-4) allowed an earned run on seven hits while striking out five. He has not lost since June 8, winning 11 straight.

Marlins starter A.J. Burnett (12-8) gave up six runs in five innings.

Carlos Delgado and Juan Encarnacion each had two hits for Florida, which fell a game behind idle Philadelphia in the National League wild card race.
