John Flaherty added a solo shot and Gary Sheffield extended his hitting streak to 11 games for New York, which avoided a three-game sweep.

In relief, winner Tom Gordon raised his record to 5-4.

Losing pitcher Bob Wickman, the Indians' closer, sank to 0-3.

Travis Hafner went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in his first game back from the disabled list, and Jhonny Peralta drove in two runs for Cleveland, which failed in its attempt to get its first home sweep of the Yankees since Sept. 11-13, 1970.
