MLB: Cincinnati 9, Colorado 4

CINCINNATI, July 17 (UPI) -- Javier Valentin hit two home runs Sunday, including a grand slam, and drove in seven runs as Cincinnati beat Colorado, 9-4.

The win gave the Reds a three-game sweep. Valentin became the first Red to homer from both sides of the plate in a game since Pete Rose did it on Aug. 2, 1967.

Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 521st career homer and tied Ted Williams and Willie McCovey for 14th all-time. Sean Casey also homered for Cincinnati.

Winning pitcher Ramon Ortiz (5-6) gave up four runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings with one walk and six strikeouts.

Loser Jamey Wright (5-10) yielded five hits and six runs over six innings with four walks and five strikeouts.

Cory Sullivan went 3-for-4, including a homer, and drove in two runs for the Rockies. J.D. Closser homered, and Aaron Miles and Todd Helton had two hits each.

Colorado has dropped four in a row.
