Michelle Wie misses cut at John Deere

SILVIS, Ill., July 8 (UPI) -- Michelle Wie failed to qualify Friday for the third round at the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill.

The 15-year-old amateur missed the cut by two strokes after a 1-under-par 141 through 36 holes. Wie was on pace to become the first woman in 60 years to make the cut at a PGA Tour event, but was done in by a double bogey at 15.

After that double-bogey, she fell under the cut line at minus-two and could not recover. Wie finished ahead of more than 50 men.

Babe Didrikson Zaharias made the cut at the 1945 Tucson Open.

After shooting a 65 Friday, J.J. Lewis is the leader at 13-under-par 129. Hunter Mahan and Shigeki Maruyama are tied for second at 11-under 131. Brandt Jobe is alone in third at 10-under 132.
