MINNEAPOLIS, June 17 (UPI) -- Minnesota Twins second baseman Luis Rivas was activated Friday off the 15-day disabled list.
Rivas had been on the DL since June 1 because of a strained left oblique (abdominal) muscle. He will fill in for the injured Juan Castro, who was hurt in Thursday's loss to San Francisco.

Castro fouled a ball off his left ankle in the first inning and is listed as day-to-day.
Rivas, an excellent fielder, has been struggling at the plate, hitting only .203 in 69 at-bats this season. Before Castro was injured, Rivas was scheduled to make a rehab start Friday night with Triple-A Rochester.
The Twins also placed infielder Brent Abernathy on the 15-day DL with a bruised right shoulder.
That move is retroactive to June 15.
