PINEHURST, N.C., June 17 (UPI) -- Retief Goosen, Olin Browne and Jason Gore are locked in a three-way tie for the lead after two rounds of the U.S. Open golf tournament.
Goosen, the defending champion, shot an even-par 70 Friday, Browne a one-over 71 after a late double bogey, and Gore -- who competes on the Nationwide Tour -- shot three-under 67.
All three are at two-under-par 138 through 36 holes.
K.J. Choi (70) and Mark Hensby (68) are the only other players under par. Choi and Hemsby stand at one-under-par 139.
Tournament favorite Tiger Woods is at one-over 141 after his a one-over 71. Phil Mickekson ballooned to a seven-over 77 and is eight shots back.
Rocco Mediate, who shared the first-round lead with Browne, shot four-over 74 on Friday. Vijay Singh and Sergio Garcia both are two shots back.
Tom Lehman, Padraig Harrington and David Haas were among those not making the cut.
