WIMBLEDON, England, June 16 (UPI) -- Former Wimbledon champions Roger Federer and Lleyton Hewitt were seeded 1 and 3 respectively for the prestigious grass court tournament beginning Monday.
Lindsey Davenport, Maria Sharapova and Kim Clisters were seeded 1, 2 and 3 on the women's side.
Federer will be trying for his third straight Wimbledon crown. He begins the tourney at the All-England Club against France's Paul-Henri Mathieu. Andy Roddick, who lost to Federer in last year's title match, heads up the bottom half of the draw and will face Czech Jiri Vaneck in the first round.
Sharapova looks to have the easiest trip, opening defense of her title against Spaniard Nuria Llagostera Vives. Davenport's first round opponent will be Russian Alina Jidkova.
Fourth-seeded Serena Williams opens her 2005 campaign against fellow American Angela Haynes.
