Sorenstam takes over McDonald's lead

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., June 10 (UPI) -- Annika Sorenstam took the lead Friday at the McDonald's LPGA Championship as she moved toward her second straight major title.

With an avowed goal of achieving a grand slam on the LPGA Tour this year, Sorenstam fired a 5-under 67 at the Bulle Rock Golf Course for a two-day total of 9-under 135.

Laura Davies, one victory away from a spot in the LPGA Hall of Fame, was alone in second at 137.

First-round co-leader Natalie Gulbis was at 138 while Laura Diaz, Moria Dunn, Tina Fischer, Il Mi Chung and Marisa Baena were all at 139.

Sorenstam has won five of her seven starts on the tour this year, one of those being the Kraft Nabisco Championship -- the season's first major.

"I'm obviously very happy where I'm at and the way I'm playing," Sorenstam said.

Amateur Michelle Wie shot a 71 to finish at 4-under 140. Rosie Jones, Paula Creamer, Liselotte Neumann, Young Kim and Meena Lee were tied at 141.
