NEW YORK, May 26 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez put New York in front with a two-run homer in the fifth Thursday night and the Yankees held on to defeat Detroit, 4-3.
Kevin Brown won his fourth straight start as the Yankees captured their fourth consecutive game and their 15th in 17 outings.

The Yankees trailed at 3-2 when Rodriguez hit his 17th homer of the year, tops in the majors. Brown (4-4) gave up 10 hits and three runs over seven innings. Mariano Rivera picked up his 11th save.
Jeremy Bonderman (5-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings. It was his first road setback of the year.
