DETROIT, May 5 (UPI) -- A run-scoring double by David Ortiz in the ninth inning Thursday gave Boston a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Trot Nixon had four of Boston's 12 hits.

The Red Sox' Bronson Arroyo (4-0) won his ninth straight decision, allowing one run on three hits over eight innings. He took a no-hitter into the seventh before giving up a home run to Carlos Guillen. Keith Foulke recorded his seventh save.

Loser Ugueth Urbina fell to 0-3.
