NBA: Memphis 84, New Orleans 76

MEMPHIS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Pau Gasol led Memphis with 20 points Friday night as the Grizzlies won their sixth straight, 84-76 over New Orleans.

Memphis has moved into serious playoff contention since the arrival of Coach Mike Fratello. The Grizzlies have a 13-6 record under Fratello, who took over for Hubie Brown.

It was Memphis' ninth win in 11 games with Shane Battier adding 19 points.

Baron Davis scored 19 for New Orleans, which has lost 10 straight.

After New Orleans closed within one point with 2:30 to play, Memphis closed the contest with an 8-1 run.
