Saban going from LSU to Miami Dolphins

ORLANDO, Fla., Dec. 25 (UPI) -- LSU Coach Nick Saban said Saturday night he will become the new head coach of the Miami Dolphins beginning in the 2005 season.

Saban is in central Florida with the Tigers, who will play Iowa in the Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day.

"I've always been driven by challenges," Saban said of becoming the sixth head coach in Dolphins' history. "This is a great opportunity and a tremendous challenge. I know there is a lot to be learned."

The agreement, which has not been officially signed, is believed to be a five-year deal.

Saban led LSU to a share of the 2003 national championship and this season guided the Tigers to a 9-2 record. He leaves the school after the first season of a seven-year contract.

Dave Wannstedt resigned as Dolphins head coach on Nov. 9 after a 1-8 start. Jim Bates has been serving as the interim head coach.
