White Sox sign Jermaine Dye

CHICAGO, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- The Chicago White Sox signed outfielder Jermaine Dye Thursday, a day after they parted ways with four-time all-star Magglio Ordonez.

The 30-year-old Dye, who has been hampered by injuries the last three years, hit .265 with 23 home runs and 80 RBI over 137 games in 2004.

Dye was released by Oakland after the 2004 season. He had been limited by a sore left thumb, an injury sustained when he dove for a ball at the beginning of August.

He will be paid $4 million in 2005 and $5 million in 2006.

The 6-5, 220-pounder, who also has played for Atlanta and Kansas City, is a career .272 hitter with 161 home runs and 611 runs-batted-in.
